Challenge: A large manufacturing company wanted to switch from a multi-layer paint system to a single layer primer with a top coat for color, while still meeting its specifications for high-end paint requirements. The company also wished to avoid nickel products.
Solution: Using Henkel’s nickel-free technology, the company achieved a hard savings of more than $500,000 annually, while also enjoying reduced energy consumption and increased floor space in their plant.
Challenge: A manufacturer of electrical control boxes experienced problems with its two paint pretreatment systems. The plant struggled with excessive sludge levels in their phosphate stage and was unhappy with the amount of maintenance time required to keep the system operating at peak performance.
Solution: Henkel’s Bonderite 1080MM had a positive impact on the amount of sludge generated. However, further improvement was desired, as the plant was still investing maintenance time dealing with sludge building in the tanks and clogging nozzles. Henkel proposed the use of Bonderite NT-1, an exclusive new technology.
Bonderite creates a thin film of nanostructured particles on the metal substrate, providing superior paint adhesion and corrosion performance on the most commonly used metals when compared to iron phosphate programs. The result? Reduced energy consumption and an increase in the bath life of the post treatment tank from 3 weeks to 3 or 4 months.
The plant has achieved annual energy savings of nearly $80,000, in addition to reductions in water, electricity and labor.
